Cam Newton battles through ankle woes
Cam Newton - QB - Carolina Panthers
Dec. 30, 2012 - 5:20 PM ET

Cam Newton completed 16-of-33 passes for 248 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Panthers' Week 17 win over the Saints.

Newton was limited by a sprained ankle, missing a few plays and running "just" seven times for 34 yards. It shouldn't put a damper his impressive second half of the season. In the seven games between Weeks 10 and 16, Newton averaged 245.6 passing yards per game while throwing 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for 360 yards and four more touchdowns during that span. Newton should not be dismissed as a candidate to be fantasy's No. 1 overall quarterback in 2013. He's rushed for at least 700 yards and eight touchdowns in each of his first two NFL seasons.
