Carson Palmer has cracked ribs & bruised lung
Carson Palmer - QB - Oakland Raiders
Dec. 24, 2012 - 4:20 PM ET

CSN Bay Area's Paul Gutierrez reports a Monday CT scan revealed that Carson Palmer has cracked ribs and bruised lung after Sunday's mammoth blow to the back from Panthers RE Greg Hardy.

Cracked ribs, plural. Palmer isn't going to play in Week 17. Matt Leinart will get the start, and Terrelle Pryor will be worked in as a package quarterback. The Raiders face the Chargers in their season finale. Palmer, who turns 33 in three days, is owed a non-guaranteed base salary of $13 million in 2013. While he is still capable of throwing the football at a high level, the Raiders don't have nearly enough pieces in place to turn him into a winning quarterback. His future with the organization is cloudy.
