Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays are close to signing right-hander Roberto Hernandez.
Hernandez, formerly known as Fausto Carmona, got off to a late start this season following an arrest for falsifying his identity and then posted a 7.53 ERA in three starts with the Indians prior to suffering an ankle injury. He would function as depth for the rotation or bullpen, according to Topkin.
