Carl Edwards is fifth in the standings with 98 points; 31 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.
In the Kobalt Tools 400, Edwards put together his second consecutive strong showing and continued his quick ascent up the standings. Edwards was out of the top 20 after a rough week at Daytona, 11th last week after winning the Subway Fresh Fit 500 and now fifth after finishing fifth in Las Vegas.
