A-Rod to have hip surgery in 'mid-January'
Alex Rodriguez - 3B - New York Yankees
Dec. 8, 2012 - 1:50 PM ET

Alex Rodriguez said Saturday that he will undergo left hip surgery in "mid-January."

It's still not an exact date, but the procedure is expected to require a 4-6 month recovery timetable, so Rodriguez could be out until around midseason. At age 37, there's a chance the rehab process could take longer. With A-Rod sidelined, the Yankees currently have a one-year, $12 million offer on the table for Kevin Youkilis, and are looking at Jack Hannahan as a possible stop-gap option.
