Mariners, Felix not ready to do extension

Newsday's Ken Davidoff hears that the Mariners are unlikely to do an extension this winter with Felix Hernandez.
The Mariners approached "King Felix" about a long-term deal earlier this offseason but negotiations didn't go all that deep. The 26-year-old right-hander is under contract through the 2014 campaign, so there isn't a huge rush from either side. Hernandez posted a 3.06 ERA and 223 strikeouts in 232 innings this summer.
