Charlie Holland turned in a 6-under-par 35-31=66 at Windyke Country Club's East Course in Memphis, Tenn., on Sunday to earn medalist honors in the open qualifier for this week's FedEx St. Jude Classic.
This is the only four-spotter held on Sunday. It's scheduled accordingly due to the potential conflict some competitors may have had with the U.S. Open sectionals on Monday. Holland made his PGA TOUR debut at the Byron Nelson three weeks ago; he missed the cut. At Windkye, he buried an eagle and five birdies to offset two bogeys. Chip Deason (5-under 32-35=67; 6 birdies, 1 bogey) and Trent Whitekiller (5-under 34-33=67; 8 birdies, 3 bogeys) shared runner-up honors. The final berth was decided in a nine-way playoff from which Vince Covello emerged. He posted a bogey-free, 34-34=68 in regulation. The remaining two openings in the 156-man field at TPC Southwind will be filled with sponsor exemptions.
