Cardinals dump 12-year veteran TE Todd Heap
Todd Heap - TE - Unsigned Free Agent
Dec. 5, 2012 - 12:05 AM ET

Cardinals waived TE Todd Heap.

Heap entered the season as the starter, but made his way into the coaching staff's doghouse due to a slow return from a sprained PCL. Knee and hamstring injuries had limited Heap to 13 of a possible 28 games with the Cardinals since signing a two-year, $5.5 million contract after the lockout. 2011 third-rounder Rob Housler is now entrenched as the starter. Heap will have to prove his knee is sound before getting a serious look on the open market.
