Rays signed 3B Evan Longoria to a six-year, $100 million extension through 2022.
The deal also includes a club option for 2023. Longo was already under a relatively team-friendly contract through 2016, but the Rays decided to officially pick up their three options and give their star another six guaranteed years. It's a risk only because the deal is so lengthy -- Longo will play the 2022 season at age 36 -- but as long as the third baseman stays healthy, this will undoubtedly turn out to be a good deal for the Rays.
