Defending champ bogey-free in second round
May 25, 2013 - 10:00 AM ET

Zach Johnson spun a bogey-free, 5-under-par 33-32=65 in his second round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial to reach the midpoint in 6-under 134, four strokes off the 36-hole lead.

Talk about a comfort zone. Even though he hasn't played up to his expectations all season, Colonial has proven to be a soft landing for the defending champion. He went 3-for-3 in scrambling in his second round and circled five birdies. Of the set, four found the cup from longer than 14 feet. The gem of the bunch measured 31'9" at the 13th hole. Of course, the question remains if he can maintain this form over the last 36 holes. He hasn't connected sub-par rounds post-cut in over four months.
