Greg Hamilton, head coach of Baseball Canada, said Saturday that Russell Martin has approached him about playing shortstop in the World Baseball Classic.
Canada has another catcher, George Kottaras, on its roster, but lacks a major league shortstop. Martin played third base and shortstop in high school and college, and has logged 77 1/3 major league innings between third base and second base. It won't affect his value on the free agent market and should be enjoyable to watch.
