Bryan Holaday has already reported to the Tigers' spring training complex, where he will work all winter in the hope of earning the job as Alex Avila's backup.
Gerald Laird inked a free agent deal with the Braves, so the door has opened for the 25-year-old Holaday. But he hit just .240/.312/.320 with two homers and 25 RBI at Triple-A Toledo in 2012 and is far from a lock for the gig. The Tigers would be best served acquiring additional depth at the position through a trade or free agency.
