John Peterson carded a 6-under-par 34-30=64 in his opening round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, finishing two strokes off the overnight lead.
As we relayed in recent weeks, Peterson grew up on Colonial. That undoubtedly played a role in him receiving a sponsor exemption into the tournament. Today he fulfilled our expectations, hitting 15 greens and curling in seven birdies against a bogey-6 at the 11th hole. Four of his birdies dropped in from 12'3"-14'0". He's a non-member but he has fantasy value in most formats. While he splits time on the Web.com Tour, he's already exempt into the U.S. Open, and don't be surprised if he pops up in another field or two on the PGA TOUR down the stretch.
