Mariners designated INF/OF Chone Figgins for assignment.
And thus ends the tenure in Seattle of one of the biggest free agent busts in recent years. The Mariners still owed Figgins $8 million in the final year of his contract, but, given his sub-.190 average each of the last two seasons, they wisely just decided they were better off cutting ties. Figgins will turn 35 in January and might have to accept a minor league deal from someone.
