
"Most executives" that Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe has spoken to would be unwilling to sign Dan Haren for more than two years due to his back issues.
They would prefer to give Haren just one year with a club option for a second season. "I would guess the free agent player who is having his medical records gone through with a fine-tooth comb more than anyone out there is Haren," said an American League executive. Haren insists that he's healthy despite rumors that a trade sending him to the Cubs reportedly was nixed over medical concerns. The righty missed three weeks of action this season due to back problems.
