Charl Schwartzel followed his opening 63 at the HP Byron Nelson Championship with an even-par 34-36=70 in his second round to reach the midpoint in 7-under 133, four strokes adrift of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.
This was a lost opportunity for the South African and a round he'd rather forget. After hitting all 18 greens on Thursday en route to seven birdies, he found 16 GIR today but converted on only three chances. What's more, two of those par breakers weren't gimmes. After holing his attempt for birdie from 11'5" at 1, he'd bury his roll from 19'6" at 15. Schwartzel bogeyed both holes where he didn't hit the green in regulation and added a three-putt bogey from 36'2" at the par-3 second hole. Overall, he fanned on five putts inside nine feet.
