O'Hair makes the most of poor ball-striking
May 16, 2013 - 5:45 PM ET

Despite hitting only 10 greens in regulation, Sean O'Hair mustered a 4-under-par 32-34=66 in his opening round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

O'Hair split just four (of 14) fairways as well, thus limiting his potential to go low -- ball-in-hand applies only in closely mown areas -- but it didn't matter. While he penciled in three bogeys, he more than offset with seven birdies. That lot included a 36'9" conversion at the par-4 10th hole -- his first of the day -- and a zero-putt eight-yarder from off the green at the par-3 13th. He signed hit card sitting six strokes off the clubhouse lead.
