Ryan Palmer backed up his opening 67 at THE PLAYERS with a 3-under-par 35-34=69 in his second round to reach the midpoint in 8-under 136, one stroke adrift of the 36-hole clubhouse co-leaders.
Palmer bogeyed five of the eight holes where he missed the green in regulation today, but he more than offset with two eagles and four birdies. His highlight package began with a par save from 27'2" at the par-5 second hole. His first birdie dropped in from 24'10" at 4, and his first eagle fell from the fringe 10 yards out at the par-5 ninth. After making the turn, he then jarred a greenside bunker shot for his second eagle at the par-5 11th. Birdies ensued from 10'11" at 13 and 15'9" at 17. All in all, it was an incredible testament to his grit. A few hours after his opening round on Thursday, Palmer learned that a boyhood pal in Texas died from injuries sustained in a car crash.
