According to Corey Brock of MLB.com, the Padres and Chase Headley have yet to discuss a long-term contract extension.
Brock notes that an "Internet report" from earlier this week claimed the two sides have had discussions about a multi-year deal, but that's not the case. Still, Padres general manager Josh Byrnes made it clear that Headley will almost certainly begin the 2013 season with the club. "I think people know we're not going to move him," said Byrnes. Headley enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2012 and is under contract through 2014.
