Harrington finds a hot putter at TPC Sawgrass
May 9, 2013 - 6:10 PM ET

Padraig Harrington carded a 4-under-par 35-33=68 in his opening round of THE PLAYERS.

Harrington has been one of golf's greatest enigmas, which leaves him best suited for full-season formats. Today was a good day, however. He split 12 (of 14) fairways and hit 11 greens in regulation en route to an eagle and five birdies. After converting his putt from 18'7" for a 3 at the par-5 second, three of his birdies found the cup from outside 10 feet. He also poured in a par save from 13'1" at 13. He signed his card sitting five strokes off the clubhouse lead with a strokes gained-putting split north of 4.400.
