Z. Johnson goes low to open the Wells Fargo
May 2, 2013 - 6:20 PM ET

Zach Johnson posted a 4-under-par 35-33=68 in his opening round of the Wells Fargo Championship, finishing one stroke off the pace of the clubhouse co-leaders.

This is a great start, but continue to hold your breath until he puts four rounds together. His only top 20 in 10 starts entering the week was a T18 at the 30-man 2013 lid-lifter at Kapalua. Today at Quail Hollow, he hit 15 greens and rebounded from a bogey at the par-4 third hole with five birdies, three of which dropping in from 10-15 feet. ZJ's longest conversion of the day may have laid the foundation for the momentum. After sailing his approach left and long at the par-4 fourth hole, he'd eventually sink a par putt from 26'11".
