Cantlay sets bar high; wins first title by 4
March 3, 2013 - 5:15 PM ET

Patrick Cantlay fired a final-round 5-under-par 33-33=66 to cash in on the potential he's flashed dating back to his amateur days in winning the Colombia Championship on the Web.com Tour.

He entered the day tied with Jim Renner and stepped on the eighth hole even par for his round. Cantlay rattled off a birdie-birdie-eagle run beginning on the eighth and added one more blow to the field with a birdie on the par-4 14th. He cruised to a four-stroke victory, with Renner the nearest competitor. Cantlay's win comes a week after he opened the season on the Web.com Tour with a T44 in Panama. It also virtually assures him a spot in the four-tournament race for a 2013-2014 PGA TOUR card, where he will be expected by many to walk away with PGA TOUR playing privileges for 2013-14.
