Unsigned Lions franchise player Cliff Avril now admits he's "not getting a good vibe" about reaching a long-term deal before Monday's deadline.
Avril has been projecting sunshine for weeks, but the Lions have stayed mum on the situation for nearly two months. "I'm hopeful, but I don't know," Avril said Saturday. "I'm not getting a good vibe, let's put it that way. But I'm hopeful." Avril is unsure what he'll do if forced to play under his one-year, $10.6 million tender. "I haven't talked to my agent past that point, honestly." Avril could hold out until Week 10 without losing an accrued year toward free agency, but would make only a pro-rated portion of his salary. The sides will surely continue negotiating over the next 48 hours, but a deal seems unlikely.
