Luke Guthrie missed a few opportunities in the third round of The Honda Classic, but still finds himself sharing the lead with his playing partner, Michael Thompson, after a 1-over-par 35-36=71 dropped him to 8-under 202.
Guthrie avoided big mistakes on a day where PGA National offered plenty of opportunities for ugly numbers. Perhaps his only reason for disappointment when he lays his head on his pillow tonight will be missed putts from short range. He missed a 5'10" birdie attempt on the par-3 fifth and failed to save par from three feet on the 10th. After that bogey on the 10th, he stopped the bleeding and managed eight pars over his final eight holes at PGA National. He had a look from 13'2" on the 18th to take the lead by himself, but wasn't able to convert. He will try and join Russell Henley as a rookie winner in Sunday's final round.
