Michael Thompson spun an even-par 34-36=70 in the third round of The Honda Classic to earn a share of the 54-hole lead with Luke Guthrie at 8-under 202.
To say it was a difficult day at PGA National would be an understatement. In fact, most of the field found that a 2-over was good enough to hold their ground. Thompson made the turn at 1-under, but immediately found himself chasing after two bogeys to start PGA National's back nine. He bounced back with a 19'7" birdie on the 12th, but once again dropped a shot due to a plugged lie in a greenside bunker on the 16th. His final birdie at the par-5 18th squared the round after a perfect drive and brilliant approach led to an easy 2-putt. Both he and Guthrie will be going for their first PGA TOUR victory in Sunday's finale.
