Mets placed RHP Frank Francisco on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 22, with a left oblique strain.
New York already announced Bobby Parnell will close in his absence, so run to your waiver wire and sign him immediately. Francisco first felt the discomfort on Friday night while earning a save against the Yankees and has been unable to pitch since. While Jon Rauch never seemed to be a legitimate threat to Francisco's job, Parnell could be if he dominates over the next few weeks. Francisco has been an adventure in the ninth inning this season, posting a 4.97 ERA and 31/14 K/BB ratio over 29 innings, while the hard-throwing Parnell has a 3.30 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 30/8 K/BB rate over 30 innings.
