Beljan falls in playoff to Merrick at Riviera

Charlie Beljan fired a 4-under-par 32-35=67 in the final round of the Northern Trust Open to take the lead in the clubhouse at 11-under 273.
Beljan is just a few months removed from his win at the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, but not much has happened since. His only payday in five events prior to this week came at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions to start the 2013 season. In his final lap around Riviera CC he circled three early birdies before dropping his only shot of the day on the short par-4 10th. He bounced back with a birdie on the par-3 14th from 15'3" and added a final red number with a 17'11" birdie on the 18th. He joined John Merrick in a playoff, and after a clutch par save on the 18th in the first hole of sudden death, he failed to do the same on the par-4 10th. He is not in the field for the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.
