Herron circles six birdies in NTO lid-lifter

Tim Herron rattled off six birdies en route to a 3-under-par 33-35=68 in his opening round of the Northern Trust Open.
Herron has been an infrequent competitor at Riviera, so his early success this week comes as a surprise. He hit only half of his greens in regulation but managed to limit his mistakes to three bogeys, which sandwiched all six of his par breakers. Four of his birdies found the cup from beyond 10 feet, including a roll from 29'1" at the eighth hole and a seven-yard hole-out from the greenside rough at 14. He signed his card sitting four strokes adrift of the clubhouse lead.
