Rays manager Joe Maddon said Friday that Evan Longoria (hamstring) could be activated from the disabled list by the middle of next week.
Longoria is scheduled to serve as the DH Saturday in his first rehab game with Triple-A Durham and will play third base on Sunday. Maddon previously indicated that Longo would need about 7-10 days on a rehab assignment, but he appears to have changed his mind. "It could be sooner," said Maddon. "After Tuesday we'll know, and if there is any kind of hesitation then it will be about seven days. It could be possibly less if everything goes well." Longoria has been sidelined since the end of April with a partially torn hamstring.
