Westwood logs first round at NTO since 2008
Feb. 14, 2013 - 3:30 PM ET

Lee Westwood opened the Northern Trust Open with a 3-under-par 35-33=68, finishing four strokes back of the clubhouse lead.

The Englishman hasn't competed in this tournament since missing the cut in 2008, but his time away didn't deter a solid loop around Riviera. He hit 13 greens in regulation and swallowed only one bogey when he short-sided his approach at the par-5 17th hole. Westwood did the bulk of his scoring and par-saving prior to that, however. After starting his rounds with pars at 10 and 11, he converted birdies from 14'5" at 12 and 18'1" at 13 before getting par attempts to disappear from 12'11" and 20'11" at the 14th and 15th holes, respectively.
