Chargers coach Norv Turner expects slot receiver Eddie Royal to handle some of the targets that went to running backs in 2011.
More than a quarter of the Chargers' 2011 pass attempts were directed at a tailback, which was the second-highest mark in the league (Saints). With Mike Tolbert gone, Turner expects Royal to take on "a lot" of those catches. "We haven't had that guy," said Turner. "Eddie's really been impressive as the guy who runs the option routes, runs the seams, runs the post -- some higher percentage stuff." Royal may see plenty of snaps in the slot, but with Mathews, Robert Meachem, Malcom Floyd, Vincent Brown, and Antonio Gates competing for targets, his fantasy upside is limited.
