Chargers sign Ronnie Brown to one-year deal
Ronnie Brown - RB - San Diego Chargers
June 8, 2012 - 5:40 PM ET

Chargers signed RB Ronnie Brown, formerly of the Eagles, to a one-year contract.

"He didn't have any juice last year, no burst," described 2011 Eagles scout Daniel Jeremiah. Brown, 31, has managed 437 yards on his last 141 carries (3.099 YPC), over his last 24 games. He earned 42 touches in Philly all last season, sharing LeSean McCoy's backup duties with fifth-round rookie Dion Lewis. Brown does know Norv Turner's offense and can pick up the blitz, giving the Chargers some protection in case Ryan Mathews goes down. In terms of Brown's effect on Mathews' workload, he should have little or none. For a team that could have signed someone like Cedric Benson, it's a best-case scenario for Mathews' fantasy value.
