Hunter Mahan makes it a twosome atop the AT&T
Feb. 7, 2013 - 6:30 PM ET

Hunter Mahan posted a 6-under-par 31-35=66 on the host course in his opening round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, finishing with a share of the clubhouse lead.

Mahan arrives in form and with a solid track record at this event, so today's effort is not surprising. He hit 16 greens and converted seven birdies, the longest of which disappearing from 14'8" at the seventh hole. He'd incur a bogey at the par-4 17th, failing to get up and down from the rough right and short of the putting surface. Mahan's aggregate is two strokes higher than Russell Knox, who played Monterey Peninsula Country Club's Shore Course today -- site of Mahan's second round on Friday -- but they are tied in relation to par.
