Knox goes low at MPCC; holds outright lead
Feb. 7, 2013 - 6:05 PM ET

Russell Knox crafted a 6-under-par 33-31=64 at Monterey Peninsula Country Club's Shore Course in his opening round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am to snare outright possession of the clubhouse lead.

The Scot is making his season debut this week and does so on conditional status. Therefore, it's unlikely that we'd see him again until Puerto Rico in four weeks. Of course, a top 10 would exempt him into next week's stop at Riviera and a win would bust open his opportunities through 2014-15, but that's jumping ahead. For now, he'll take a day that featured eight birdies against two bogeys. The 64 also matches his aggregate low on TOUR. Knox will move over to play Spyglass Hill in Friday's second round.
