Vijay Singh remains in play; opens with a 72
Feb. 7, 2013 - 6:05 PM ET

Vijay Singh signed for an even-par 35-37=72 following his opening round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am at Pebble Beach.

Singh hit 12 greens and wiped off four birdies with four bogeys, his last two of which whiffed par saves from inside seven feet. The score itself is borderline irrelevant. Instead, that he even teed it up under the cloud of suspicion that trailed the report and his admission of ingesting the banned substance IGF-1 is the headline. He met with commissioner Tim Finchem on Wednesday, but no details of that get-together have surfaced. It's also worth the reminder that Singh had withdrawn early from last week's stop in Arizona due to a back injury. Next up for the Big Fijian is Monterey Peninsula Country Club's Shore Course.
