Love III to have neck surgery; out 6-8 weeks
Feb. 6, 2013 - 6:05 PM ET

Davis Love III will undergo surgery on his neck on Friday morning in Atlanta.

DL3 withdrew after one round of last week's WMPO due to ongoing issues with numbness and loss of strength. He had a cortisone shot on the opening day of the tournament. He then pulled out early of this week's stop at Pebble Beach. Dr. Regis Haid will perform the surgery after which the golfer will be able to start putting in just five days. Love III expects to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks. "I've been working around it and it's been a nagging thing for a long time," he said. "The last three months it's been more than a nagging thing, it's just been a constant annoyance and needs to be fixed. ... It seems like the right time. I had to get out of the cycle. I wish I had done this five years ago."
