Joe Affrunti emerged in a playoff to win the season finale of the NGA Tour's Winter Series at Timacuan Golf Club in Lake Mary, Fla.
Affrunti opened with a pair of 64s to establish a seven-stroke lead entering the final round of the scheduled 54-hole tournament. He'd close with a 76 to find himself in a playoff with Sam Beach (65) at 12-under 204. Affrunti won with a bogey on the second playoff hole to set the table for his return to PGA TOUR-sanctioned golf. In a video interview afterwards, Affrunti said this of his win: "To have [the NGA Tour] to see where your game's at and work on things, it definitely prepares me for the start of my season, which will be in a couple of weeks." Affrunti has 13 starts on a medical extension in the reshuffle on the PGA TOUR, but it's difficult to determine precisely when he'd crack a field on merit. He's not scheduled to play on the Monterey Peninsula this coming week, so look for him to emerge at the Web.com Tour's Panama Claro Championship on Feb. 21-24.
