Stephen Gallacher recorded a three-stroke victory at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club.
The 38-year-old Scot opened 63-70-62 to establish a three-shot margin over first- and second-round leader Richard Sterne (62-70-66) entering the finale. After opening bogey-bogey against Sterne's par-birdie start, the duo became engaged in a battle that would extend through 15 holes. Then, from the rough beside the fairway at the par-4 16th, Gallacher jarred his approach, the ball landing softly a few feet in front of the hole before trickling in. It was his fifth eagle of the week to go with 19 birdies. "I've holed four shots this week, but you've got to do that these days to win ' you need that little bit of magic," he said. Sterne bogeyed the hole and both would turn in 1-under-par 71s. Gallacher posted 22-under 266 for his second career European Tour victory (2004 Dunhill Links). Today's title exempts him into the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. He'll move to ~60th in the world ranking. If he's inside the top 64 on Feb. 11, he'll gain entry into the WGC-Match Play.
