Night Officer wins Belmont's Around The Cape

NEW YORK (AP) - Night Officer held off Hoofit by a neck Thursday in the $85,000 Around The Cape Stakes on the turf at Belmont Park.

Jose Lezcano was aboard for trainer Bruce Brown as the 5-year-old won for the sixth time in 25 starts. The time was 1:07.92 for six furlongs on the firm course.

Night Officer paid $10.20, $4.40 and $2.50 as the 4-1 second choice, while Hoofit returned $6.90 and $3.40.

Next Question set the pace as the 4-5 favorite before finishing third, paying $2.30.
