Mark Brown completed International Final Qualifying-Australia at Kingston Heath Golf Club in Melbourne in 10-under-par 72-62=134, earning medalist honors and a trip to the Open Championship in July.
After exchanging three birdies with three bogeys in his opening round, the Kiwi went bogey-free in the nightcap with an eagle and eight birdies to establish the course record. He was one stroke lower than Australian Steve Jeffress, who shot 9-under 68-67=135 at the 36-hole qualifier. Jeffress circled six birdies against two bogeys in his opener before going bogey-free with five birdies in his second round. Fellow Aussie, Stephen Dartnall, holed 10 birdies to offset just two bogeys en route to third-place honors at 8-under 67-69=136, thus securing the final berth of the three up at stake at the site. Brown is the only of the trio that has competed in an Open, missing the cut at Turnberry in 2009. Notables that failed to qualify include: 137--Scott Laycock; Peter O'Malley ... 138--David McKenzie ... 144--Paul Gow ... 146--Paul Sheehan.
