Mickelson survives cut on number; MDF looms
Jan. 27, 2013 - 9:50 PM ET

Phil Mickelson bogeyed the final two holes of his second round of the Farmers Insurance Open, but still survived the cut on the number at 1-under-par 72-71=143.

Mickelson played Torrey Pines South today. He sandwiched two bogeys with five birdies before limping in on the 17th and 18th holes. He's one of 19 golfers tied for 69th place at the midpoint; therefore a second cut of low 70 and ties will occur after 54 holes. This is otherwise known as the Made-(cut)-Didn't-Finish (MDF). Cool and wet conditions are expected to persist through Saturday. There may be some clearing midday but it's unlikely that anyone of the 87 remaining in the field will avoid the use of an umbrella.
