Jockey Robby Albarado, riding Animal Kingdom, crosses the finish line on his way to winning the 137th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 7, 2011 in Louisville, Ky.

With the 138th Kentucky Derby right around the corner, look back at some of the best races in the last decade at Churchill Downs with this list. Which horse will run its way into history and join the likes of Big Brown, Mine That Bird and Super Saver? Watch the race and all of the festivities LIVE Saturday on NBC and NBCSports.com at 4 p.m. ET.

1. 2006 Kentucky Derby: Barbaro's final victory
With a powerful 6 1/2-length victory, the largest winning margin since 1946, Barbaro proved he wasn't a one-surface pony. He became just the sixth undefeated horse in 132 years to win the Derby. The favorite heading into the Preakness two weeks later, Barbaro shattered his right hind leg, an injury that forced veterinarians to euthanize him around eight months later.

2. 2004 Kentucky Derby: Smarty Jones lives up to his pedigree
With Triple Crown winners Secretariat and Count Fleet and contenders Funny Cide and Fusaichi Pegasus in his pedigree, hopes were high for Smarty Jones in 2004. The 4-1 favorite started his Crown campaign in the muddy Kentucky Derby, maintaining his perfect race record and earning a 2 3/4-length victory after moving ahead at the top of the stretch. Smarty Jones won the Preakness Stakes by a record 11 1/2 lengths but was upset in the Belmont Stakes and finished second.

3. 2005 Kentucky Derby: Giacomo pulls off a shocker
Given 50-1 odds just before the Kentucky Derby, Giacomo surprised the field and became the second-biggest long shot to win the Run for the Roses. After breaking 18th out of the gate, Giacomo passed 17 horses in the last half-mile to edge out another 50-1 horse by a half-length for the victory.

4. 2009 Kentucky Derby: Mine That Bird goes from last to first
A 50-1 long shot surprised the field in the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby, as Mine That Bird exploded down the stretch for a 6 3/4-length victory. Squeezed immediately out of the starting gate, Mine That Bird fell about 15 lengths back in dead last early on. It was the second biggest upset in Derby history.

5. 2001 Kentucky Derby: Monarchos burns up Churchill Downs
Covering the 1.25-mile track at Churchill Downs in 1:59.97, the second fastest time ever behind Secretariat's 1:59.40 in 1973, Monarchos charged to victory in 2001. Running on fresh legs after taking the week off before the Derby, Monarchos finished 4 3/4-lengths ahead of the field. The gray colt finished sixth in the Preakness and third at the Belmont.

Can Orb take second step to Triple Crown run?

Orb is the even-money favorite at Saturday's Preakness, and there's a growing feeling that this 3-year-old bay colt may be special enough to give thoroughbred racing its first Triple Crown champion since Affirmed in 1978.
