A lot of the talk heading into UFC 145 last week focused on whether undefeated Stephen Thompson had enough tools to make a serious run at the title.

Unfortunately for "Wonderboy," Matt Brown ended his 62-fight winning streak, which included amateur and pro kickboxing bouts as well as MMA, with a dominant unanimous decision win.

The loss exposed Thompson's deficiencies on the ground, however, his training partner Georges St-Pierre said on Friday that he doesn't believe the UFC pushed Thompson too quickly.

"I don't think he's being pushed too quickly," St-Pierre said. "He had a lot of chances to beat the guy, but you know, sometimes you just have a bad night. Things happen. No excuses. 'Wonderboy' is amazing; Matt Brown is amazing too. I lost before. Everybody lost. Anderson Silva lost before. Everybody lost in that sport. It's going to happen to everyone. You cannot be on top all the time."

The 29-year-old Thompson won his UFC debut via spectacular head kick knockout at UFC 143 in February. After the event, Brown, who also scored a big knockout on the same card, took exception with the fact that Thompson won the $65,000 KO of the Night bonus and asked the UFC to match him up with the much talked about Thompson. The UFC obliged by setting up the grudge match at UFC 145.

Brown would go on to control the fight with a series of takedowns. He also sliced open Thompson's forehead with a few stiff elbows.

St-Pierre, still rehabbing his surgically repaired knee, was in Thompson's corner for the fight but expressed regret over not being able to train with Thompson for the bout. He insisted the young striker would only learn from last week's crushing defeat.

"It's just experience," he said. "'Wonderboy' is an amazing striker. He's the best striker I've seen in my life. Seriously, in pure striking, he would demolish everybody in UFC. Everybody. But the thing is, in mixed martial arts; it's not only striking. Grappling is involved, wrestling, clinching. It's a different game, and I think it's experience. He fought a very tough guy. The guy who he fought was very clever, and I'm sure he's going to come back stronger."
