Scott Langley blistered Waialae Country Club for a bogey-free, 8-under-par 30-32=62 in his opening round of the Sony Open in Hawaii, good for sole possession of the overnight lead.
The 23-year-old rookie from the University of Illinois could do no wrong today. He went 6-for-6 in scrambling but dialed long distance with his putter throughout his round. After a pedestrian birdie conversion from 13'11" at the second hole, he then holed birdie looks from 23'9" and the third and 25'3" at the fourth. After finding the green in two at the par-5 ninth, he drilled home the eagle from 56'4". The lefty would add three birdies coming in, including a beauty from 29'3" at the 16th hole.
