Late eagle boosts Overton into the Sony lead
Jan. 10, 2013 - 5:50 PM ET

Jeff Overton set his career low at Waialae today, carding a 5-under-par 31-34=65 in his opening round of the Sony Open in Hawaii to establish the new clubhouse lead.

This was Overton's 21st loop of the host course. He's 4-for-6 but hasn't fared better than a T20 in 2011. Today he hit 15 greens and buried six birdies. The longest of the bunch dropped in from 15'10" at the 17th hole and 19'1" at the ninth.
