Redskins were interested in Orton last year

According to the Washington Examiner, the Redskins had interest in free agent Kyle Orton when he was waived by Denver last November.
The Redskins didn't put in a waiver claim because of the salary implications and potential for locker-room "friction" with Rex Grossman. While he'd be an upgrade on Grossman for 2012, the Redskins would likely view Orton as more of a stopgap solution while grooming a rookie. It would make some sense for Washington to sign Orton in free agency before drafting a quarterback in April. Particularly if the rookie isn't selected at No. 6 overall.
