The UFC's official debut on FX has come and gone, and as is usually the case when the public isn't all that excited about a card going into it, the evening turned out to be an entertaining one from the first fight until the last one.
Let's take a look at who the Fantasy Matchmaker thinks should be next for Friday night's winners and losers.
Jim Miller: Donald Cerrone.
Yes, I know Cerrone is coming off a loss, but here's the thing: Nate Diaz should fight the winner of Pettis vs. Lauzon for a chance to fight for the title. That means either Miller fights the loser of that fight or someone like Cerrone, who stumbled at the end of the year against Diaz after starting 2011 4-0 in the UFC. There just isn't anyone else out there for Miller who makes sense. Plus, Miller agrees that he probably needs to win a couple more fights before he is back in the title chase.
Melvin Guillard: Sam Stout.
Tell me you wouldn't want to see two of MMA's hardest punchers go toe-to-toe.
Josh Neer: Brian Ebersole.
Neer mentioned in the post-fight show that Ebersole was someone who interested him next, and I like the idea. Two vets with different styles.
Duane "Bang" Ludwig: Dan Hardy.
I know Hardy has been calling out Matt Hughes lately, but this fight makes a whole lot more sense to me.
Mike Easton: Brian Bowles.
A loss to Urijah Faber shouldn't push Bowles too far down the ladder, so how about a fight against Easton, who's 2-0 in the UFC? Plus, I think it's time we see Easton take a step up in competition.
Pat Barry: TBA.
If Mark Hunt beats Cheick Kongo next month, I would pay top dollar to see Hunt vs. Barry. If not, how about Rob Broughton? I think it would be best to move Barry back up the ladder slowly.
Other fights to make:
Jared Papazian vs. Ken Stone
Charlie Brenneman vs. Jon Fitch
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Cody McKenzie
Nick Denis vs. Walel Watson
Junior Dos Santos flattened Frank Mir with a huge right hand and finished him on the ground at 3:04 of the second round Saturday night, emphatically defending his heavyweight title at UFC 146 on Saturday night.
Can anyone top the big three of Silva, Jones, and GSP as the best pound-for-pounder fighter?
