EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - New Jersey Devils defenseman Scott Stevens skated this week for the first time since being sidelined by post-concussion syndrome.

Stevens, the team captain, skated Monday and Tuesday at an undisclosed location, general manager Lou Lamoriello said before the Devils played the Panthers in Florida on Tuesday night. Lamoriello said Stevens felt good on the ice. Stevens will hold a news conference Wednesday.

The 39-year-old Stevens was sidelined indefinitely after missing five straight games in January with what the Devils originally said was the flu. He last played on Jan. 7.

Honored on Jan. 17 as the career leader among defensemen in games played, Stevens told reporters he visited Dr. Karen Johnston, a noted concussion expert in Montreal two days earlier.

“It seems like that is what I’m suffering from, post-concussion syndrome,” Stevens said at the time, adding he had no idea when the concussion occurred.

The 22-year veteran has three goals and nine assists in 38 games this season.

In other injury news, Lamoriello said backup goalie Corey Schwab is scheduled to undergo groin surgery in Montreal on Wednesday.
