Kaymer closes out the year with Nedbank title
Dec. 2, 2012 - 12:25 PM ET

Martin Kaymer carded a 3-under-par 35-34=69 in the final round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge en route to a two-stroke victory over Charl Schwartzel.

Kaymer took the lead with a third-round 70 at Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, South Africa before sharing the low round on Sunday to post 8-under 280. It's his first victory since the 2011 WGC-HSBC Champions, and fulfills the goal he established at the beginning of the week. "I'm very happy to finally win this year, that was the most important thing for me," he said, "because I was practicing very hard. ... I said to Craig, my caddy, we have to win one tournament every year and this is our last chance, fortunately we could bring it home." Bill Haas was the only American in the 12-man field; he finished alone in third place. Two-time defending champion, Lee Westwood, settled for solo fifth, seven strokes adrift of Kaymer. Winning is winning, so despite the fact that Kaymer beat only 11 guys, it was a deep pool of talent and he achieved his objective. His fantasy value entering 2013 as a rookie on the PGA TOUR is arguably at an all-time high.
