Meen-Whee Kim reached the halfway point of the final stage of Q School in 18-under-par 68-63-67=198, good for a one-stroke lead over Robert Karlsson and two shots ahead of Edward Loar.
Kim also led after 36 holes in the six-round affair at PGA West. The top 25 not already eligible will earn PGA TOUR cards for 2013. The South Korean is eight strokes clear of the golfers just inside that bubble at 10-under 206. Karlsson was one of eight to card a field-low 65 in the third round.
